Cynthia Rowley constructed her first dress when she was seven years old. Growing up in a family of artists , she enrolled at the School of the Art Institute to pursue a degree in fine art . Soon , the combination of drawing and sewing pushed her into the fashion program . Her first full collection was purchased while she was still in school, encouraging her to move to New York and establish her collection.
Rowley’s namesake collection has since grown to include women’s wear, eyewear, jewelry, handbags, shoes, legwear, swimwear, home sewing products, wetsuits, as well as collaborations with Johnson & Johnson Band-Aid Brand and Tweezerman. Rowley also recently designed a new tween collection called DreamPop, which is sold exclusively at JC Penney. The Cynthia Rowley Collection is sold in better department, specialty and online stores, as well as more than sixty Cynthia Rowley shops around the world. Rowley has been recognized both within the fashion industry, with a Perry Ellis Award for Womenswear Design Talent by the CFDA and a CFDA nomination for the Perry Ellis Award for New Menswear Design Talent, and as a popular style authority on Good Morning America, Project Runway, Oprah, David Letterman, The Today Show, and America’s Next Top Model among others.
