Shoebuy.com Building Athletic And Outdoor Categories

Shoebuy.com announced the addition of retail executive Sean Scales to its merchandising team. Shoebuy is one of the largest retailers on the Internet, offering over 1,000,000 products from more than 1,400 brands. As Senior Vice President of Merchandising, Scales brings nearly twenty years of specialty sporting goods experience to the e-tailer that proudly bills itself as "The World's Largest Site for Shoes." He will lead the company's athletic/outdoor segment and report to Patrisha Sweeney, EVP and Chief Merchandising Officer.

"After a solid year in 2012, we're excited to add depth to our merchandising team and focus on growing our athletic business. The athletic and outdoor categories are places that we're finding great market opportunity. Having Sean on the team will further expand the value we provide to our customers and brand partners in these areas," said Shoebuy CEO Mike Sorabella.

Scales joins Shoebuy from the leadership team at City Sports, where he was instrumental in helping the retailer grow from a Boston-based chain of stores to the regional multi-channel company it is today. After several years as a footwear buyer, he was promoted to the executive team where he served at various times as COO, EVP, and VP of Business Development. One of Sean's key accomplishments at City Sports was leading the development and launch of the company's eCommerce channel. "I'm thrilled to join the Shoebuy.com team," said Scales. "Shoebuy's catalogue is unmatched and the commitment to the customer is 100 percent in line with my approach. Even more exciting is that there is a great deal of running room ahead of us."

2013 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Shoebuy. Coming off a record holiday season with significant gains in key metrics such as average order value, repeat buying, and web site conversion, the company is continuing to enhance its catalogue and its platform with a series of initiatives planned for this year. "We've identified areas where we'll enhance the user experience on the site, while improving the award winning functions that have distinguished us over the years," explained Sorabella. "After bolstering our platform infrastructure in 2012, I'm looking forward to delivering customer-facing enhancements that will strengthen Shoebuy's place as a premier online shopping destination for not only footwear, but also apparel and accessories."
