Nicholas Kirkwood will launched his first men's collection, Nicholas Kirkwood Men's, in London today. Retailing from $520 to $950, the six styles include a classic oxford, a desert boot, a smoking slipper and a sportier lace-up that borders on a sneaker. "They are still very much based on your classic men's shoe. The styles are meant to be simple in the pattern, and it really becomes about the material," Kirkwood told WWD. The designs feature leather, suede and calf hair and are in colors ranging from subdued black, navy and wine to metallic patent ice blue and silver. Kirkwood, who's namesake women's collection launched eight years ago, said he infused similar motifs like colored zigzags into the men's collection, as well as microdot nail heads and cap toes. "It's keeping the same spirit. The smoking slipper is based on the women's version of the shoe. It's quite similar but without the glitter, and has a thicker sole rather than a little heel," Kirkwood added. The line will hit the designer's namesake boutiques in London and New York in July.
