From the Oscar Red Carpet to The Bata Shoe Museum

Treccani Milano has always prided itself in the painstaking skill their designers and master craftsmen put into the shoes they create. And now, a pair of their custom handiwork is going to be exhibited in a museum, just like a work of art.

Starting on October 2nd, 2012, the Tuxedo Shoes that were hand-crafted for Screenwriter David Shamoon when he attended the 2012 Academy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles and the Genie Awards in Toronto will be displayed in the Celebrities Section of the The Bata Shoe Museum, known around the world for its rare collection of footwear.

When Shamoon's film In Darkness was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film of 2012 and he was personally nominated for a Genie Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for the same film, he wanted to be wearing something special on the Red Carpet. Only Treccani Milano shoes would do for his feet.

These shoes, which will share space with those worn by Marilyn Monroe , Elvis Presley , Elton John and Madonna, are indeed unique. Made of black glossy patent leather interrupted with a soft "mille righe" leather for a dazzling, but classic effect, Shamoon's shoes are from the brand's aptly named Oscar Nights Collection.

But there are extra touches that make these creations even more unique. Engraved initials appear on the heel as well as a personalized message on the insole. Treccani Milano General Manager, Emanuele Bonasia explains: "The shoes have a very particular customization: on the heels there is our company symbol, an Italian greyhound charm in solid silver. David's wife wanted to surprise him so we decided to engrave 'IN DARKNESS Oscar Nominee Best Foreign Language FilmFebruary 26, 2012' on the insole."

After wearing the shoes on only the two special occasions, Shamoon decided to donate the pair to the Bata Shoe Museum. Elizabeth Semmelhack , Senior Curator at The Bata Shoe Museum, says, "Sometimes we display a pair of shoes more because of the link to a celebrity rather than their intrinsic beauty or quality. In this case, these shoes are really quite stunning, so we got the best of both worlds."

Emanuele Bonasia says, "We couldn't be more thrilled with such an honour. We sell our shoes through very select outlets around the world, and The Bata Shoe Museum is world renowned, so this is a perfect fit." Adds Shamoon, "These shoes have had quite a journey, from Hollywood's most glittering event to one of Toronto's best known museums. What a kick!"
